Messi's future in limbo after Barcelona join European Super League

The announcement of a European Super League has added a new dimension to the uncertainty over Lionel Messi's future at Barcelona.

The 32-year-old sees his contract at the Camp Nou expire in June, with no news over an agreement over an extension.

Messi is expected to meet with Barcelona, along with father and agent Jorge, to discuss his options now the club have joined the Super League.

Being part of this project is a big financial boost for Barcelona, who would receive some 300 million euros just for participating. With this money, the Catalan club would be able to build a sporting project worth staying for in Messi's case.

However, it may all come down to Messi's international ambitions. It's likely that Super League players will be banned from playing for their countries, including at major tournaments.

With a Copa America and World Cup coming up in the next 18 months, this looks like Messi's last chance to win an international trophy.

If he were to decide to leave Barcelona, there list of clubs he could join and still play international football is limited. Paris Saint-Germain are not involved in the Super League project for now.
