  • The Spanish and Italian national teams train ahead of upcoming friendlies

The Spanish national team trained under their new head coach Julen Lopetegui ahead of their friendly against Belgium on Thursday.

Lopetegui replaced Vincente del Bosque as Spain manager last month following del Bosque's retirement. And the man in charge has wasted no time making his mark, ommitting Iker Casillas and Cesc Fabregas from the squad.

Sergio Ramos is expected to captain the side after 35 year-old Casillas was dropped in favour of goalkeepers David de Gea, Pepe Reina and Adrian. Following their friendly in Belgium, Spain have four days to prepare for their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein.

And Spain aren't the only European powerhouse with a new man at the helm, as recently appointed Italian coach Gian Piero Ventura oversaw training, prior to their friendly against France.

Previous coach Antonio Conte left for English Premier League side Chelsea in the after guiding Italy to the quarter-finals of the European Championship.

After the France friendly, Italy will visit Israel to open their World Cup qualifying campaign.
