Stenhousemuir 2 : 1 Ayr Utd. - Devlin grabs late winner
Posted Saturday, March 26, 2011 by PA
Mike Devlin scored an injury-time winner against Ayr United to give Stenhousemuir a 2-1 victory and three precious points in their relegation fight.
Simon Lynch gave the home side the lead after just three minutes when he connected with Stephen Murray`s cross from the right.
Ayr then dominated a first half in which they could not find an equaliser, Alan Trouten coming the closest with a 12-yard effort that rattled the post.
After the break, Andy Rodgers should have levelled when he found space to shoot inside the penalty area, however, he curled the ball the wrong side of the upright.
Ryan McCann also hit the post in the final 10 minutes.
The Honest Men thought they`d stolen a point when Mark Roberts scored with just seconds of normal time left, but late into added time Devlin headed in an Eric Patton free-kick to snatch the points.
