ABOVE: Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand insists Barcelona are not invincible
RIO FERDINAND has warned Barcelona they will face the REAL Manchester United at Wembley.
The England defender admits he is still haunted by United’s defeat to Barca in 2009 and is determined put it right on May 28.
Ferdinand has never watched a repeat of the Rome showpiece when his United were taught a lesson by Barca. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side were beaten 2-0 to surrender their European crown with barely a whimper.
But Ferdinand is backing his team-mates, who can clinch the first leg of a potential Double at Blackburn on Saturday, to set the record straight.
He said: “I have never watched 2009 again but I have re-run it in my head a few times. Matches like that are hard to forget as it is clear in your head. We never played. We never got on the ball.
“We weren’t Manchester United that day. This time we will give a better account of ourselves.
“On the way back we were sitting there thinking if only we had gone out and played and been the real Manchester United, it would have been different. “They always say you don’t want to come off the pitch with any regrets – there were regrets that night.”
Ferdinand insists Barcelona are not invincible. “They have got three of the best in the world playing in their team if you look at the awards that were given out,” he said
“But I’m sure they will be thinking the same about us.
