AC Milan celebrated their Scudetto success in style with a 4-1 win over Cagliari at the San Siro.

Two goals from Robinho and others by Gennaro Gattuso and Clarence Seedorf earned Massimiliano Allegri's side three points before they lifted the trophy in front of a sell-out crowd which had accompanied the team through the city prior to the game.

Andrea Cossu scored Cagliari's consolation, but they had to admit defeat, just like the rest of Serie A this season against a rejuvenated Rossoneri side.

Milan arrived at the stadium after an open-top bus tour through the city.

They did a lap of honour before changing into their kits to prepare for their penultimate appointment of the season and tiredness following the pre-match celebrations looked to have taken its toll as Cagliari started brightly.

But after shots from Radja Nainggolan and Andrea Lazzari missed the target, Milan moved into gear and showed why they were a cut above in Italy this season.

Robinho put them ahead in the 22nd minute when he dribbled in from the left and hit his shot into the far corner of Michele Agazzi's goal from just inside the penalty area.

Two minutes later, Gattuso added the second with a reflex header from 20 yards into an open goal after Agazzi tried to clear the ball from the feet of Alexandre Pato.

Pato should have added a third in the 34th minute when he was put through on goal with only Agazzi to beat, but he lifted the ball into the Cagliari goalkeeper's hands.

A minute later, he set up Robinho for the third.

Robinho entered the penalty area in an almost identical position to his first goal and shot into the same corner.

Cossu was the only Cagliari player who still seemed to be playing and he scored a consolation goal in the 38th minute which drew applause from the home fans for the way he turned Mario Yepes in the area and beat Christian Abbiati.

The rhythm of the game dropped in the second half as the fans waited for the final whistle.

Before it came, Seedorf added a fourth in the 77th minute, exchanging passes with Pato before sliding the ball past Agazzi for a fitting conclusion to an unforgettable season for Milan fans.
