Sheffield United vs Crewe preview - Wallace won't go for Blades
Posted Tuesday, November 18, 2014 by PA
Sheffield United will be without midfielder James Wallace for their first-round FA Cup replay against Crewe.
Summer signing Wallace returned to the side in Saturday's win at Doncaster but last only 21 minutes before suffering a recurrence of the hamstring and groin problems that have restricted him to 11 appearances this season.
On-loan Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy sits out a one-game ban following his dismissal at Doncaster, though would have been ineligible anyway, and new teenage signing Che Adams, on the bench at the weekend, is cup-tied.
Striker Diego Girolamo, plus midfielders Michael Doyle and Louis Reed are among those pushing for recalls.
Crewe's manager Steve Davis is light of options in attack.
Loanees Danny Haynes and Febian Brandy are unavailable under the terms of their short-term deals, while Marcus Haber remains away on international duty with Canada.
Shorn of his three most senior strikers, Davis is likely to choose between Brad Inman, Billy Waters, George Cooper and Callum Saunders.
Skipper Matt Tootle has only just returned to training following illness, but defender George Ray is eligible again having served a three-game suspension.
