Dijon 1 - 1 Monaco: Frederic Sammaritano rescues late Dijon point in Monaco draw

Frederic Sammaritano scored late on as out-of-form Dijon secured an unlikely 1-1 draw against title-hopefuls Monaco.

Guido Carrillo's early strike looked like handing Leonardo Jardim's side the points needed to go clear at the top of Ligue 1, but a deserved goal late on for the hosts diminished any hopes of top spot for the principality side.

Monaco looked to step up their pursuit of top spot early on and were gifted an opportunity as early as the fifth minute when some lapse defending from Jordan Loties presented Valere Germain with a chance but his deflected effort ended up just the wrong side of the post.

Then, on 16 minutes, the visitors got their breakthrough when Djibril Sidibe saw his effort from Bernardo Silva's delivery well saved by Baptiste Reynet but Carrillo was on hand to bundle the ball home.

Dijon's best chance to respond came 10 minutes before the interval but, after Yohann Riviere and Frederic Sammaritano combined to tee up Vincent Rufli, the Swiss defender pulled an effort wide of Danijel Subasic's left post.

The home side strived to get back into the game early in the second-half as Romain Amalfitano saw a first-time deflected 25-yard effort fly wide of the goal and Yunis Abdelhamid fired over after Sammaritano and Johan Gastien did well to fashion the chance.

Monaco continued to live dangerously as Rufli had an effort turned away for a corner by Subasic on 70 minutes before - from the resulting set-piece - substitute Lois Diony was unable to get a decisive touch on Loties' header to steer it beyond the keeper.

Then, with just three minutes left to play in normal time, Dijon struck to get a deserved leveller.

Substitute Julio Tavares' miscued header fell kindly for Diony at the back-post and the fellow substitute selflessly put the ball into Sammaritnao's path, who rolled it over the line into an empty net.
