Iker Casillas once forgot to put his dad’s accumulator on and cost him £1million

These days Iker Casillas is known as one of the most-decorated footballers in history.

And it's a bloody good job that he is!

Because for years he effectively owed his dad £1million.

The story goes that when Casillas was a kid his old man used to like a flutter on the football.

And, like a lot of us, he had a penchant for accumulators.

One week he trawled through the fixture list and picked out 14 teams he believed would be victorious.

Then he gave the slip to young Iker.

Because apparently the done thing in the late 1980s was to let your child of seven or eight be the one to actually place the bet.

Anyway, Iker forgot to put the bet on, probably because he was distracted by a Pokemon card trade or whatever he was into at the time.

You can guess what happened next...

All 14 of Casillas senior's predictions proved to be correct.

Imagine little Iker telling his dad that he had forgotten to put the bet on and that the family were not suddenly £1m richer.

Roughly a decade later, Iker signed a professional contract with Real Madrid and money was never an issue again.

There's a lesson for all of us there, always take responsibility for sticking on your accas, don't leave it to anyone else.

Especially not your seven-year-old kid.

Unless you're certain he'll go on to play for one of the world's richest clubs of course, in which case just sit back and relax.
