Lee Frecklington produced a late winner as Lincoln City performed a League Two smash-and-grab raid at their Sincil Bank home, coming from behind to beat 10-man Bury 2-1.
The Shakers were the better side for 75 minutes and led through Eoghan O’Connell’s first-half strike, but the game turned on its head after Will Aimson saw red for handball in his own area and John Akinde reduced the arrears from the spot.
Frecklington then sealed victory in the 82nd minute to keep Danny Cowley’s men in the top two.
City’s first opportunity came after 25 minutes when Harry Toffolo’s free-kick was tipped over by keeper Joe Murphy, who then produced a superb save to keep out Jason Shackell’s bullet header.
Imps striker Matt Rhead cleared Adam Thompson’s header off the line at the other end, but a minute later, O’Connell slammed a shot home from close range at the second attempt after City failed to deal with a corner just past the half-hour mark.
Ten minutes after the break, Omotayo fired wide when well placed, before Tom Pett brought a flying save out of Murphy.
With 15 minutes to go, Shakers defender Aimson was deemed to have stopped Bruno Andrade’s fierce effort with his hand and was shown a second yellow card, with Akinde calmly slotting home from the spot.
City then grabbed the winner as Frecklington fired into an empty net after Murphy came rushing out to deny Andrade, with the ball falling to the home skipper, who took his time before firing the ball home.
