Joey Barton jokes about taking Fleetwood on the road after latest home draw

Joey Barton is contemplating asking to play on the road every week afte rhis Fleetwood side were frustrated at home to Accrington.

Cian Bolger sent Town on the way with a 38th minute header but Sean McConville levelled in the 70th minute to earn the visitors a 1-1 draw in Sky Bet League One.

Despite a seven-match unbeaten run, Fleetwood boss Barton has seen his side win at home just once in four league games, compared to two wins and two draws on the road.

And the former Manchester City midfielder joked he is contemplating writing to the English Football League about the problem.

He said: “I’m going to write to the EFL and ask if we can play every game away! Which would be a first.”

He added: “Credit to Accrington, they applied themselves well but we are disappointed we have not got three points at home.

“Away from home we have been ruthless, very clinical but at home we have not had the same application.

“It is something that baffles me because it is the same graft and 11 players, but you have to learn to close games out.

“For us, you want to win games of football.

“We are progressing nicely. Maybe this was a game we would have lost in the past.”

Accrington boss John Coleman has also overseen a seven-match unbeaten run but this was Stanley’s fourth successive 1-1 draw in the league.

Coleman used a bizarre analogy about BBC programme Strictly Come Dancing and former judge Len Goodman when describing why his side had again failed to take all three points despite an impressive display.

He said: “Fleetwood came into this game in a rich vein of form but we have pretty much controlled the game.

“It is not Strictly Come Dancing. You are not waiting for a 10 from Len. It is hard currency and, although we defended quite well, we conceded a goal.

“They scored once from three or four chances.

“We scored one from 10 or 12 if we can get our ratio up we will start winning games.”
