Ryan Lowe hails Bury’s comeback victory over Oldham

Delighted Bury boss Ryan Lowe saluted his side’s comeback win as they roared back from a half-time deficit to sink Lancashire derby rivals Oldham 3-1.

Paul Scholes’ side were on track at the break thanks to the best 45 minutes in four games under the ex-Manchester United star so far, but the promotion-chasing Shakers roared back to seal maximum points.

Bury remain in second place in the table, two points behind leaders Lincoln after an unbeaten run going back to Boxing Day.

A proud Lowe said: “Fair play to the lads, they’ve been terrific in the second half.

“They’ve taken it in their stride and in the end we were worthy winners, I thought.

“The second-half performance was brilliant. We finally converted some good chances.

“It doesn’t matter whether you score from three yards or 20 yards, it’s about how you create the chances and then go and put them in.

“We’ll just keep ourselves focused now, because this is still a very tough league of course.

“Lincoln, Mansfield, MK Dons, Colchester – they’re all really good, strong sides, but it is still all about what we do. I’m just concerned about us.

“There’s no time to rest neither. We’ve got a massive game against Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday and the focus is now firmly on that.

“Let’s hope the fans turn out again and roar us to another big victory.”

Lowe also heaped praise on loanee midfielder Jordan Rossiter, who ran the show in the middle.

Lowe added: “Jordan doesn’t get many goals, but he does an absolutely great job in that midfield.

“You can just see he’s got that quality that really stands out.”

Oldham struck first after just eight minutes at a packed Gigg Lane. Jose Baxter dragged a low cross back into the path of Callum Lang, and the Wigan loanee forced the ball home.

Bury’s fightback began after 72 minutes. Callum McFadzean crossed in low from the left and there was the predatory Nicky Maynard, who bundled the ball home.

Five minutes later the game was turned on its head when the Shakers struck again as Jay O’Shea charged in to meet Nicky Adams’ cross and lashed clinically into the roof of the net.

Maynard made it 3-1 late on as he nipped in from of a dithering George Edmundson to tap home from two yards out.

Oldham boss Scholes lamented conceding a trio of “sloppy” goals as his side have now lost back-to-back games.

Scholes said: “It’s disappointing of course. We’ve conceded three sloppy goals and we can’t afford to be doing that.

“I thought the first-half performance was alright. We played some nice stuff and got the early goal.

“Don’t forget Bury are a really dangerous team, but we were nullifying them and proving a threat ourselves.

“I think in the end though, four games in just two weeks are starting to take their toll on some of the players. It’s turning out to be a bit too much for some of them.

“We did do okay in that first half, but you’ve got to play like that over the course of a full 90 minutes.

“We sat too deep in that second half, and we’ve paid the price. We’ve been playing on some bad pitches too, and that doesn’t help the way we play.”
