Joe Jacobson effort enough as Wycombe edge Fleetwood in season finale

Joe Jacobson scored direct from a corner as Wycombe ended their season on a high with a 1-0 win over Fleetwood.
Gareth Ainsworth’s side have been fighting for their lives all season, but went into the final day knowing their Sky Bet League One status was secure.
Chairboys’ goalkeeper Ryan Allsop pulled off a string of fine saves to end the campaign with a clean sheet.
Fleetwood’s first real chance fell to Lewie Coyle, who fired over the crossbar before Allsop kept out
Ashley Hunter’s fizzing strike from outside the box.
For Wycombe defender Jason McCarthy’s curling free-kick cannoned against the post before the break.
Just after the restart, McCarthy found Jacobson outside the box with his corner, with the defender testing Alex Cairns with a fine volley.
On the hour Paddy Madden could only strike wide as Fleetwood threatened.
And Joey Barton’s boys were made to pay when Jacobson’s corner flew in after 75 minutes.
Late on Hunter blasted an effort over when he should have done better and Allsop denied Madden’s header from point-blank range with mere minutes remaining.
