Callum Harriott gives Colchester victory at Salford

Colchester recorded a first win in three with a 2-1 Sky Bet League Two victory over Salford at a rain-soaked Peninsula Stadium.
First-half goals from Kwame Poku and Callum Harriott proved enough for the U’s, who maintained their position in the play-off places.
Salford showed early promise, with Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ashley Hunter both going close to breaking the deadlock.
But it was Colchester who took the lead in the 27th minute when teenager Poku drove forward from midfield and hit the ball beyond Salford goalkeeper Kyle Letheren.
The U’s doubled their advantage 14 minutes later when Harriott raced down the left flank and hit a thunderbolt past Letheren.
Former Manchester United forward James Wilson then saw his effort denied by the leg of Colchester goalkeeper Dean Gerken, before The Ammies pulled a goal back just before half-time when Hunter pounced on a loose pass and sent the ball into the net.
Salford dominated for spells in the second half, but could not make it count as substitutes Tom Elliott and Darron Gibson spurned chances to salvage a point.
