American skipper Ken Read and his Puma Ocean Racing team won their second straight leg of the Volvo Ocean Race on Wednesday (9th May).

Puma won Leg 6 when they arrived in Miami after an eighteen day battle with Camper, to put them back in contention for the overall race.

Puma dominated the 4,800 nautical mile leg which started in Itajai, Brazil and only surrendered the lead on two occasions to Camper and for no more than 48 hours.

Puma's margin of victory in Leg 6 was around five nautical miles.

It's the fourth time in six legs that PUMA have finished on the podium, and they picked up an invaluable 30 points for the leg win to take their overall tally to 147.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ken Read, PUMA Ocean Racing, Skipper: "This is huge for us - we kind of feel like we're back in the regatta, you know, and we needed something like this to happen, the way this is stacking up. There were so many times we could have blown this race and this team just refused to and that's a huge credit (to them). We've come a long way. This is big, this is a big deal for us. We are going to be celebrate tonight, I can guarantee you that!"

With six of nine offshore legs complete in the race Telefonica leads with 164 points, followed by Groupama on 153, Camper on 149 and Puma 17 points back in fourth place.
