Day four of the inaugural South East Asian swimming championships got underway on Friday.

One of the most keenly-anticipated events was the men's 100 metres butterfly where Indonesian Fauzy Triadi, in lane four, was expected to do well.

He was however unable to take gold and had to settle for bronze as Victor Glen broke away in the final 15 metres and finished first to win gold in 53.19 seconds

Local swimming sensation Tao Li then dominated the women's 100 metres butterfly event as she led from the start.

The China-born Li finished in style as she won gold in 59.23 seconds.

In the men's 400 metre freestyle event, Malaysia's Keven Yeap won the gold medal in three minutes, 54:19 seconds while compatriot Vernon Lee took the silver.

In the women's 800 metres freestyle, Malaysian Cai Lin Khoo was hardly tested from the halfway stage of the race.

The Malaysian won the gold in 8:52:45 seconds.

In the men's 4 by 100 freestyle relay, hosts Singapore started strongly when they led the race after the first two legs.

Indonesia's Victor Glenn, who ran the pivotal third leg, gave his team a crucial bodylength lead when he swam past Singapore's Sheng Jun Peng.

The Indonesian team never looked back and won the gold medal after Pratama Guntur finished in style to shock favourites Singapore, who had to settle for silver.
