Intro:
After 64 years and eight summer games, the Oldershaw family from Canada finally had an Olympic canoeing medal to celebrate on Wednesday (8th August), as 29-year-old Mark Oldershaw won bronze in the 1,000-metre C1 race at Eton Dorney.

SOUNDBITE (English): Mark Oldershaw, men's canoe single 1000m Olympic bronze medallist:
"I think, it's just special, just because it was London, I think that made it extra special that that's where my grandfather started the whole thing, the whole family tradition of going to the Olympics - and he inspired us all as I'm sure he inspired a lot of other Canadians, and other athletes, to go to the Olympics. And it's always been a dream of mine to take after my family and get to the Olympic Games but, at the same time, I always wanted a medal as well. So that was something that I kind of wanted to do that none of them had done, and I had people like Adam (van Koeverden) and Larry Cain to kind of show me the way and how to do that... and just to have it all come together in London is such a special feeling."
SOUNDBITE (English): Adam van Koeverden, men's kayak single 1000m Olympic silver medallist:
"I really can't express how special it is to be sitting up here with Mark. A couple of years ago Mark suffered from a pretty bad injury, and he's too much of a champ to talk about it very often. But he underwent some pretty serious surgeries to get rid of that injury - and for a time, I'm sure he never doubted himself, but I always wondered, 'am I going to be able to share the Olympic experience with the guy I started paddling with?'... and it's a dream come true."
