  • Intro:

The two boats of Oracle Team USA dominated Sunday's fifth and final day of racing at the season-opening America's Cup World Series (ACWS) event in San Francisco.

Russell Coutts secured the Match Racing title - team-mate Jimmy Spithill, the Fleet Racing and Event Championship.

    Script:

The climax to the first ACWS event was held in San Francisco - the host city for the 2013 America's Cup.

The day began with Russell Coutts, the four-time America's Cup winner, taking out team-mate Jimmy Spithill in the Match Racing Championship.

In a race that saw the lead change hands three times, Coutts won by just one second with both boats tearing across the finish line at 20-plus knots.

Then, about 40 minutes later, Spithill found himself in another charge to the finish line. This time he needed to overcome Team Korea under Nathan Outteridge, to capture the Fleet Racing and Event Championship.

At the front, Spithill rounded the last mark slightly overlapped on Outteridge's stern and then got a penalty on his rival skipper.

Outteridge was forced to slow down by the umpires, and Spithill sailed through to leeward and into second place for the race and a one-point victory in the overall event standings.

Luna Rossa Piranha, skippered by Chris Draper won the fleet race finale by three seconds over Spithill.
