  • Maria Sharapova was handed a two-year ban from tennis after she tested positive for meldonium at the Australian Open in January.

Maria Sharapova has been banned from tennis for 2 years after her failed drugs test at the Australian Open.

The International Tennis Federation have now confirmed the length of the ban after Sharapova tested positive in January.

The Russian was provisionally banned in March after announcing she had been found with the banned substance meldonium in her system.

The heart disease drug, which she says she has been taking since 2006 for health issues, became a banned substance at the start of the year

The five-time Grand Slam winner said she "cannot accept" the "unfairly harsh" ban - and will now appeal at Court of Arbitration for Sport.
