Keys beats Strycova for first WTA title

  • Madison Keys beat Barbora Strycova in straight sets to win the Aegon Classic in Birmingham on Sunday (19th June).

    Barbora Strycova and Madison Keys did battle in the final of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham on Sunday.

    American Keys made the better start, breaking Strycova early and racing into a 3-1 lead.

    That break proved crucial as Keys was able to comfortably take the first set 6-3.

    Strycova improved in the second set, however, she missed a chance to break Keys which proved to be a turning point in the set.

    Keys punished Strycova with a break of her own, before serving out the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

    This was Keys' first WTA title and pushes the 21-year-old into the world's top 10 for the first time.

    The young American will be hoping to make a similar impact at Wimbledon.
