  • Daniel Gimeno-Traver beat Benoit Paire 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in the opening round of the German Open in Hamburg on Tuesday.

Philipp Kohlschreiber beat Carlos Berlocq 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.

Inigo Cervantes of Spain beat German teenager Alexander Zverev the 4th seed 7-5, 7-6 (2).

The first round of the German Open continued on Tuesday.

Out on court early was Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver against the second seed Benoit Paire.

Gimeno-Traver, the world number 156, took the first set by breaking his French opponent in his final service game.

The world number 23 then took control of the second set to trigger a decider.

But momentum swung back in favour of the 30-year-old Spaniard who took the third set 6-4, and with it the victory.

Looking to cause another upset, Argentina's Carlos Berlocq was up against number one seed Philipp Kohlschreiber.

The 32-year old German took the first set 6-3, but the world number 87 levelled the match after winning a second set tie-break.

Kohlschreiber won the 2016 BMW Open on home soil in Munich earlier this year and again gave the German crowd something to celebrate by winning the third and decisive set to proceed to the second round.

Later in the day, fourth seed Alexander Zverev was dumped out by Spain's Inigo Cervantes.

The rising star made it to the third round at Wimbledon but struggled on the clay against a determined Cervantes ranked 82 in the world.

The 19 year old double-faulted when set point down, handing the first set to his opponent.

His status as the youngest player inside the world's top fifty didn't help him in the second set either, Cervantes equal to everything that came his way.

Zverev had no answer to a determined and accurate spell of hitting from the Spaniard in the tiebreak, and he eventually wrapped up victory in an hour and 40 minutes.
