And why would he? For while 29-year-old Peter - the 6ft 7in Tottenham Hotspur and England striker - may have been cruelly mocked because of his height, Abbey is drop-dead gorgeous.
Even today, wearing a baggy jumper and leggings, and with just a dab of eyeliner on her otherwise make-up-free face, the 5ft 9in lingerie model looks stunning. She is also incredibly sweet, asking everyone at our shoot whether they are OK as she totters in wearing huge heels.
And it's just as well that she can see the funny side of Peter's fan club.
She knows only too well how easy it is for footballers to become mired in rumours of infidelity. One of Abbey's closest friends is John Terry's wife Toni, 28, and Abbey was one of the people she turned to in the aftermath of her husband's alleged affair with French model Vanessa Perroncel, 33. Abbey and Toni live near each other in Surrey and see each other most days at the stables where they ride.
