  • Intro:

Great Britain triathlete Alistair Brownlee has won the ITU World Series event in Kitzbuehel, Austria, on comeback from an Achilles tendon tear. His brother, Jonathan, came second.

    Script:

After injuring his Achilles tendon in February, triathlete Alistair Brownlee wasn't sure how his form would be in Austria on his return.

But he won his first race back after injury with a time of 1 hour, 50 minutes, 13 seconds at the ITU World series event.

SOUNDBITE (English) Alistair Brownlee, Great Britain, winner:
"I didn't really know what my form was going to be like. I know I have trained bloody hard for the last couple of months and I have been real tired the last couple of days so it was just whether I (was able) to recover from that in time or not. Yeah. I didn't feel great but to go that quick I couldn't have asked for much more."

His time was a comfortable 48 seconds ahead of his brother Jonathan who came second with a time of 1 hour 51 minutes and 2 seconds.

It was Jonathan's third consecutive podium in the 2012 ITU World Triathlon Series

Javier Gomez of Spain came third.

The Brownlee brothers are not expected to compete again until London 2012.
