  • Intro:

Qatar celebrated its best-ever Olympic Games haul as promising athlete Mutaz Essa Barshim finished with a bronze medal in the men's high jump at the Olympic Stadium in London on Tuesday (7th August).

    Script:

21-year-old Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim produced a slick performance in the first three rounds of the high jump final, clearing 2.20, 2.25 and 2.29 with ease.

However, Barshim couldn't clear the bar when raised to 2.33 and had to settle for a bronze, along with two other athletes.

    SOUNDBITE (Arabic): Mutaz Essa Barshim:
"Thank you so much, I thank God we won a bronze medal and I dedicate it to HH the Emir of Qatar, our people, the Olympic committee, friends and family, they all have helped me. I worked hard and did what I had to do."

Barshim's medal was Qatar's fourth bronze in Olympic Games history.
