Nothing like a bit of Gangnam Style to warm up the runners ahead of a frosty Beijing Marathon.

Around 30,000 marathon fans gathered at Tiananmen square - with the temperature only just hovering above zero degrees celsius.

Tariku Jufa Robi from Ethiopia arrived at the finish line first in a time of 2 hours 9 minutes and 38 seconds.

Robi admitted that the cold temperature did have some impact on his performance but that he still enjoyed the race.

    SOUNDBITE: (English), Tariku Jufa Robi:
"The competition is good, the weather is cold, I am very happy today."

Eliud Kiptanui from Kenya finished second and another Ethiopian Solomon Molla Tiemuay took bronze.

It was an all Chinese affair in the women's race.

Jia Chaofeng, from China's northwest Gansu province, took the tape in 2 hours 27 minutes and 40 seconds.

China's Sun Lamei came home in second 15 seconds back and Sun Weiwei third in 2:28:03.
