  • Intro:

Amazed by the enthusiasm of the participants of the 2013 Beijing Marathon in which all 30,000 runners submitted their registration within 13 hours of the process starting, organisers on Wednesday said they are looking forward to the most successful and secure staging of this increasingly influential race to date.

SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wang Dawei, vice president of China Athletic Association:
"Chinese women marathon runners have won gold medals in world championship and bronze medals in Olympics - and those medal winners have all experienced the Beijing Marathon. I have to say, the Beijing Marathon and the other marathon events in China have played very positive roles for the improvement of Chinese professional runners."

SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wang Dawei, vice president of China Athletic Association
"We are pursuing the improvement of the quality and the content of the Beijing Marathon event, but we won't make any breakthrough on the number of the participants which will remain at 30,000. We are improving our services - and security work is a very important technical concern in all our organisation work."
