Training on English turf for the first time ahead of the NFL International Series game against the Detroit Lions at Wembley Stadium, Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith admits he'd prefer to be playing this nominated home game back at the Dome.

"We always like to play in the Dome. If we could schedule all 16 games there we would - that's not possible. We have to play the games how they're scheduled. We're looking forward to the opportunity to play Detroit here at Wembley."

After their week seven loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the Falcons lie at 2-5 and in third place in the NFC South.

Division leaders Carolina are at 3-3, but Atlanta's hopes of making the play-offs are not over, according to quarterback Matt Ryan.

"We're going to have to win and we think we're going to have to start winning this week. With that said, within division, there's reason to be optimistic, as bad and as ugly as it's been the last couple of weeks, we're still right in the mix and that's one of the reasons I think there's a lot of optimism."

The Lions boast the NFL's most dominant defence this season.

The Falcons star wide receiver Julio Jones believes it's unacceptable for Atlanta's high-powered offence to go three and out.
