LIVERPOOL legend Steven Gerrard gave a little girl suffering from rare brain cancer the surprise of her life when he paid her a visit at home.

The former Liverpool and England captain turned up at the 11-year-old's house in Huyton to offer her a nice hug and a few laughs.

In a heartwarming video – available above – Gerrard arrives at Charlie's family home and knocks on the door.

He turns around and offers a cheeky smile to the camera before Charlie opens the door with her mother.

Charlie stifles tears for a few seconds before Gerrard wraps his arms around her and they enjoy a warm embrace.

The kind-hearted 36-year-old then cracked a cheeky merseyside gag, saying: "Are you red or blue? I'm not coming in if there are any blues in here."

Her father Mark, 41, told the Liverpool Echo: "The way he was with Charlie was really special. It was very emotional."

He added that Everton fans in the family have now gone from hating the ex-Liverpool player to "loving him".

The clip has been shared thousands of times on social media and fans were impressed by the Liverpool legend's efforts.

And a third added: "I'm a Manchester United fan but I've got to respect this. He genuinely looks happy to be making a kid happy."

Charlie has Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).

According to the Brain Tumour Charity it is the second most common aggressive brain tumour found in children and likely to spread to other areas of the brain or spinal chord.

Charlie and her family are hoping to travel to Germany for trial treatment and have set up a Go Fund Me page for those able to help her with a donation.
